Urban Mining for a Circular Europe
Our vision
METIUM (HydroMEtallurgical Tech for Interregional Urban Mining) is building Europe’s first interregional Urban Mining ecosystem to recover critical materials from waste, bringing together expertise in research, industry, recycling and engineering to advance circular innovation and resource independence.
A future where cities become reliable sources of valuable materials, supporting a circular, sustainable and resource-independent Europe.
The aim is to recover critical materials from waste, reducing dependency on imports and supporting Europe’s circular economy and industrial resilience across regions. METIUM develops Urban Mining value chains that combine collection, processing and advanced recycling technologies to recover Strategic Raw Materials and drive circular innovation across Europe and beyond.
From Vision to Impact
METIUM’s journey transforms innovation into real-world impact through collaboration, advanced recycling technologies and interregional Urban Mining value chains. Over four years, the project progresses from building the foundation to delivering scalable solutions for Europe’s circular and resource-independent future.
